Our History

The First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, IN was first established in 1837, although back then it met in a much smaller wooden structure on what is now S 4th Street. This first building was struck by lightning during the night on August 22nd, 1885 and was totally gutted by fire, including a collapse of the steeple.

Our new church building was constructed where it stands today on the corner of N A Street and N 10th Street and was dedicated on April 17th, 1887. In 1958 an addition was made to the building of a new wing including offices, classrooms, and a large fellowship hall.

Throughout our history, First Presbyterian Church has been a committed participant in the community of Richmond, sponsoring the start of many new service programs over the years, hosting events and concerts, and partnering with other local organizations in their work. We hope to continue our legacy of worship, growing together, and supporting our city.
